The power source of Electric Windlass is the motor, which drives the spindle to rotate after multi-stage deceleration through the large and small gears in the reducer box. Due to the high requirement of deceleration ratio, the deceleration mechanism is large and mainly used for small and medium-sized ships.

Electro-hydraulic Windlass (electro-hydraulic windlass), also known as hydraulic Windlass, is driven by the motor hydraulic pump, the generated oil pressure drives the oil motor, and then through the reducer (or no reducer) to make the windlass operate. It has compact structure, small size of power and transmission part, smooth operation, good speed performance, but high manufacturing technology and maintenance requirements, and is widely used for modern large and medium-sized ships.

The steam windlass is driven by the steam engine, and the drum shaft is driven by the gear through the crank shaft. It is characterized by large power and simple structure. When using steam anchor, the cylinder should be warmed in advance, and the residual water vapor in the cylinder should be drained after use. When the weather is cold, the car should be run (keep idling) to protect against freezing.
